5 Reasons I Love Audio Books
1. The amount I “read” has greatly increased since I started to listen to audio books.
2. I can listen to audio books during my commute to and from work.
3. I can download audio books from Audible, the library, etc and be listening to it within minutes.
4. I don’t need to any light to listen to audio books.
5. Many audio books are read by the author which make the experience more personable.
A Beginner’s Guide to Audio Books
An audio book is a sound recording of a book. Some recordings are abridged, meaning that some parts of the book (fluff stuff, not the key parts) are omitted. Others are the unabridged, or complete, book.
In the past audio books were distributed mainly on CDs or cassette tapes, but nowadays downloadable digital formats (eg MP3) are the most popular way of listening to audio books.
The great thing about digital formats is that you can download audio books and begin listening to it in just minutes. Transferring audio books to your portable listening device (iPod, Blackberry, etc) means you can listen while jogging, driving, working out, taking a walk, etc.
The biggest online seller of audio books is Audible, which is owned by Amazon.com. There are also many places where you can download audio books for free. Another good place to start is with the Audible.com free trial which lets you download a high-quality audio book for free as part of a 14 day no-obligation trial.
